Super-fast times on the A168!

Most improved rider Dave Mann in full beast mode!

Event number 8 in the Beech House Dental Practice Time Trial League was scheduled to be the 12-mile time trial to Ripon. However, due to road works an alternative course, the Roecliffe-Dishforth 10-mile course was chosen. This route takes riders from Bar Lane, Roecliffe, onto the A168 north towards Dishforth, turning and heading back south to finish at the layby just past the Roecliffe roundabout.

16 riders signed on from Harrogate Nova and Moonglu. Most riders were on TT bikes.

The weather was very warm with a moderate wind from the southeast. Good conditions meant there were going to be some fast times.

Ben Pease (Moonglu) took 1st place on a TT bike in a time of 19:52, only 12 seconds off Alex Beldon’s overall course record. Joe Turnbull (Nova) was 2nd 20:57 on a TT bike. Duncan Mullier (Nova) came in 3rd in 21:48 on a TT bike, breaking the vets TT record. Special mention goes to Dave Mann (Moonglu) who dipped into the 22s for a time of 22:57 on a TT bike for 4th place, showing just how much he has improved in 2024.

Tilly Bland (Moonglu) was 1st lady in 27:55 on a road bike with Joanne Wallace 2nd breaking the lady vet’s road bike record in 28:35.

Thanks as always to the support team who enable each event to take place – timekeepers, number-takers, signage and marshals. A particular thanks go to Margaret and Vaughan Caswell, Caroline Mullier, Iain Wallace, Neil Thompson and Paul Coyle.

Next week’s event is the Club 15-mile time trial starting at Boroughbridge.
