Rain does not stop play!
Event number 4 in the Beech House Dental Practice Time Trial League was the Pennypot 12-mile TT loop, heading west up Pennypot Lane and returning via Broad Dubb Lane, Norwood Lane and Pot Bank.
With 3 hills on the route, riders have to choose whether to ride TT bikes or road bikes. However, the biggest decision on the night was whether to turn up at all! After a Biblical downpour all day, only the brave turned up to race. As it was, the rain had more or less eased off and there was a moderate wind from the west.
Just 9 riders signed on from Harrogate Nova and Moonglu with 6 on road bikes and 3 on TT bikes. Which would be the better weapon on the night?
Duncan Mullier (Nova) took the win on a TT bike in a time of 27:09 with Tom Rowlay (Nova) 2nd in 27:44 on a road bike and Andrew Wild (Nova) 3rd in on a road bike in 28:29. Credit goes to James Boddy who had a puncture 2 minutes before the start and managed to repair it and race.
Unlike the England-Pakistan cricket match, the race was not abandoned, and everyone was pleased to have made the effort. A special thanks goes to the support team who were not deterred by the weather: Margaret and Vaughan Caswell, Mike Hudson, Ian Wallace, Joanne Wallace and Eric Knights.
There is no event next week. The next event is a 15m TT on 5th June.
