Record Breakers!

Alex Beldon breaking speed limits!

Event number 3 in the Beech House Dental Practice Time Trial League was the Roecliffe-Dishforth 10-miler. A new course in 2022, the route takes riders from Bar Lane, Roecliffe, onto the A168 north towards Dishforth, turning and heading back south to finish at the layby just past the Roecliffe roundabout. The weather was mild with a light wind from the southeast.

26 riders signed on from Harrogate Nova, Moonglu and Harrogate Tri Club, with an even split of TT bikes and road bikes.

Alex Beldon (Moonglu) produced a phenomenal time of 19:40 on a TT bike to break the men’s overall record. A time of sub-20 is 30+ mph. Wow! Ben Pease (Moonglu) took 2nd place on a road bike in a super-fast time of 20:51 breaking the men’s road bike record with Duncan Mullier (Nova) in 3rd in 21:54 on a TT bike, breaking the vets TT record. In the lady’s competition records were also broken. Newcomer Tilly Bland (Moonglu) was 1st on a TT bike in 26:17 posting the fastest ladies time, with Joanne Wallace breaking the lady vets road bike record in 28:57.

Thanks as always to the support team who enable each event to take place – timekeepers, number-takers, signage and marshals. A particular thanks go to Margaret and Vaughan Caswell, Caroline Mullier, Rob Senior and Tom Denwood.

Next week’s event is the Pennypot 12-mile time trial. It’s a hilly course and may suit those on road bikes.
