The 1st event in the 2023 Beech House Dental Time Trial League was the undulating Farnham 9-mile route starting at Farnham crossroads, heading up golf club hill on the A6065 towards Minskip, turning left towards Staveley and back up to the start. The weather was cool at around 11 degrees Celsius with a light wind meaning near perfect conditions.

28 riders signed on from Harrogate Nova, Moonglu and new additions to the league, Harrogate Tri Club. There was an equal mix of riders on TT bikes and also road bikes, with even a couple of those on gravel bikes!

It was certainly a successful night for the young riders. Alex Beldon from Moonglu was the fastest, setting a men’s and junior record time of 19:36. 27 seconds behind him, in second place, was Joe Turnbull of Nova in 20:03, also a junior. In 3rd position was Neil Fearn (Nova), fastest V40 in a time of 20:40. All 3 were on TT bikes. A special mention goes to Tom Rowlay who set a men’s road bike record of 22:01.

Joe Turnbull was the most improved rider on the night, shaving a massive 94 seconds of his previous best.

Commiserations go to Ben Pease (puncture) and Paul Dunn (off course) who did not finish.

Thanks to Margaret and Vaughan Caswell for setting up and timekeeping. Also, a big thank you all the marshalls for ensuring safe turns at all the junctions.

Next week’s event is the 10-mile V212 TT on the A168 from Arkendale lane end down to Walshford roundabout and back.
