Event number 2 in the Beech House Dental Practice Time Trial League was the well-known V212 10-mile course on the A168 from Arkendale lane end down to Walshford roundabout and back. This would be the first time the V212 had been ridden in the 2023 series so riders would have an opportunity to see where they were at and to try to set a pb.

The weather was cool at around 13 degrees Celsius with a moderate wind coming from the east-south-east. The high hedges offer good protection from the wind on the outward leg. Would there be any benefit on the return leg?

29 riders signed on from Harrogate Nova, Moonglu and Harrogate Tri Club. With it being a fast and relatively flat course, the majority of riders were on TT bikes.

The first 3 men were separated by less than 1 minute: Aidan Adams (Nova) was 1st in 21:23, with Neil Fearn (Nova) 2nd in 21:41 and Grant Whiteside (Nova) 3rd in 22:12. Rupert Visick (Nova) was 1st male rider on a road bike in 24:10. Cassy Mackintosh (Nova) was 1st lady in 25:45.

Thanks as always to Margaret and Vaughan Caswell for setting up. Also, a big thank you to the marshalls for ensuring safe turns at the roundabout, the number-catchers and the timekeepers.

Next week’s event is the Roecliffe-Dishforth A168 10-mile time trial.
