Race Team - mid-season update
September 2024 - With the road racing season concluding, and cyclo-cross (CX) and hill-climb season staring, a timely update on the progress the Junior and Youth Race Team has made so far.
Traveling to Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium (the locations are getting more exotic!), and numerous locations in the UK, the riders, Director Sportifs and parents have been clocking up the driving and racing miles.
All this has been made possible by our wonderful sponsors. Thank You Stringer Mallard (accountants), connective3 (digital marketing agency), Strive Group (connected experience agency), Elite Edge (performance coaching), wsb (property consultants), OTE Performance Nutrition, Specialized Concept Store Harrogate, and Prologue Performance Cycles.
In its second season, the team has achieved some great results (or palmarès as the French say it) in the super-competitive Junior ranks:
· Won National Junior Races - Isle of Man stage and GC, points and team award
· Many top 10s at National Junior Road Races - with riders coming 10th (Louis Herring), 11th (Harry Hudson) and 13th (Emil Howell) in the final standings
· Had a rider 11th in Junior Tour of the Basque Country, 2nd first year Junior – Isacc Oliver (guesting for another team)
· Had three riders qualify for the Redbull Brothers– Harry Hudson, Louis Herring, Isacc Oliver (of 15 across the world)
· Won numerous local events - including the U16 Beverley GP – Mark Ketteringham; and White Rose League race-Cormac Denwood
· Won a race in Belgium, as part of a three-race/five-day trip (Denholm Edwards, guesting for HNRT)
· Raced in UCI 2.1 GP Ruebliland in Switzerland (baptism of fire!) – Magnus Denwood and Louis Herring
· Finishing a super 14th in the Northwest Youth Tour – as a first year U16 – Finley Hudson
Other youth Nova racers, likely to join the Race Team in future years, have been doing well in national or regional events: Patrick Kavanagh, Ted Carey, Harry Collingwood-Cooper, Tom Bromiley, Ross Muir, Bobby Whatmuff, and Erin Denwood, and
Gemma Man has topped the club regional points tally, and Matt Wood has been super competitive in season long, in their respective adult categories.
Next up:
· Phillp Gilbert UCI 2.1 two-day race near Liege – HNRT team of 6
· Hill climb season – with Harry Hudson current reigning Junior Champion, and came 3rd in the Elite last year, we have great potential
· CX season just starting –top 15s at UCI events already – Isacc Oliver and Magnus Denwood
