Hilly and Windy
The 6th event in the 2022 Beech House Dental Practice Time Trial League was the infamous Hilly 19 mile circuit of Nidderdale. Taking in 3 tough climbs (Bedlam, Dacre Banks and Darley Head), it is not for the faint hearted!
The weather was sunny with a strong westerly wind…tough on the way out but promised a great tailwind on the return down the A59 from Menwith Hill. Many of the seasoned timer-triallers who are happier with 10s, 25s, 50s on flatter courses decided to opt out so it was a smaller number of riders who waited at the start line.
There was a good mixture of Nova and Moonglu riders. Out of the 12 riders, only 3 rode on TT bikes given the hilly nature of the course. Rob Senior was 1st off and had been expected to produce a good time but unfortunately was not feeling 100% so retired. Richard Jennings of GS Mossa was the fastest on the night in 46.42, on a road bike. Duncan Mullier of Nova put in a strong performance with a 47.33, on a TT bike. First lady was Lauren Robinson of Moonglu in a very respectable 53.51, just 1 second ahead of Richard Buckle (Nova) who was 3rd male. Robyn McLean (Monglu) was 2nd lady in 65.44. Duncan Mullier wins the Hilly 19 trophy as 1st claim rider of Nova and Rob Wilkins (Moonglu) was the most improved rider.
Thanks to Margaret and Vaughan Caswell for setting up and timekeeping. Also, a big thank you all the marshalls for ensuring safe turns at all the junctions and the roundabout on the A59. Next week’s event is the 18 mile Langthorpe TT with 2 loops of 9 miles around Kirby Hill and Skelton.
